How is it different from other transfer sites?

End-to-end encryption on by default (many well-known sites do not encrypt this way and can open your files). Files stay for up to 90 days, or with no expiry on Pro and Studio, without you having to keep your computer on. Transfers up to 1 TB, in original quality, stored in the European Union, with no trackers. And with control: password, download limits, delete after opening, view without downloading, watermark and virus checks on both sides.

Can the WohSend team see my files?

No. Without the key, what we store is unreadable. The team only sees the list of transfers (sizes and dates) to stop abuse, and can delete a reported transfer, but cannot open it.

Do you keep logs?

The minimum, and nothing that says who downloaded what. We do not store IP addresses: where a connection has to be recognised (limits and abuse), we keep only an irreversible code made with a secret key. Visits to the site are not logged; the server only keeps its own error messages, for a few days. Downloads are counted by country, without IPs. When a transfer expires, its title, message, sender and recipients are deleted.

Are there trackers or ads following me?

No. There are no advertising or analytics cookies: only the ones needed to keep you signed in. The site’s fonts are served by us, not by Google. Advertising on WohSend is a sponsor’s background that follows nobody.

What are my rights?

You can download all your data or delete your account whenever you like. To correct something or make another request, contact us. You can always complain to the CNPD, the Portuguese data protection authority (cnpd.pt).

Do you compress my files?

Accepted Answer

Never. Files arrive exactly as they left your computer, byte for byte: same quality, same size, same metadata. Photos, videos and audio are never resized or recompressed. To be fast we use several connections at once, not compression.

What if someone else has my link?

Anyone with the full link can open the files, like a house key. Share it only with the right people, add a password, limit the downloads or pick a short expiry.

Do files start uploading before I press Send?

Yes, so Send is almost instant, but only with end-to-end encryption on: what goes up is already encrypted in your browser and the key never leaves your page. Until you press Send, the link does not exist for anyone. A file you take out is deleted, and if you leave without sending, everything is deleted within a few hours. With encryption off, nothing goes up before you press Send.

What picture shows when I share a link?

It shows what the person opening the link will see. A link without encryption shows its first photo. A link with a background shows that background (a colour or a ready-made one right away; your own photo or video only if you turn on "Cover when shared"). An encrypted link only shows one of its photos if you turn on "Cover when shared": that picture is sent apart, unencrypted, so the app can show it (the files stay encrypted), and it is deleted with the link. With a password or a watermark, the files never show, only the background. You can remove the cover later, in Manage.

I lost the link. Can you recover it?

No, and that is a good sign: we do not have the key. The links of your transfers are kept in this browser, under Transfers.

What about when WohSend emails the link?

Then the key passes through our server only to write the email (it is not stored) and travels inside the email, like any link. For maximum privacy, copy the link and send it yourself, with the app you prefer.

Where are the files stored?

On Cloudflare, in data centres in the European Union. Everything travels over HTTPS, and even there it stays encrypted with your key.

How long do you keep my data?

Files, until the link expires or is deleted. If you delete your account, your data is deleted right away. Database backups (no files) disappear by themselves within a few weeks.

What if someone sends me a virus?

Nobody in the middle can see inside an encrypted file (that is the point), so the check happens in the browsers, using only the fingerprint (SHA-256), compared with about 70 antivirus engines. First in the sender’s browser: known viruses are refused. Then in yours, as soon as the file is decrypted: if it is a known virus, we warn you before you open it and the team is told, so it can delete the transfer and block the sender. Programs and scripts always show a warning, and verified senders have a badge. This catches known viruses, not brand-new ones: only open programs from people you trust.

Is WohSend open source?

WohSend’s code is not public. But the part that protects your files runs in your browser, where anyone can read it: crypto.js is served exactly as written, with its notes. It only uses open, well-tested standards (AES-256-GCM and HKDF-SHA-256 from the browser’s Web Crypto), nothing we invented.

Is my account protected?

Passwords are stored with PBKDF2-SHA-256 (100,000 rounds, salted): not even we can read them. You can turn on two-step verification, see where your account signed in and end sessions.

How can I check this myself?

Open one of your links and look: the key is after the #. In the browser’s developer tools (Network tab) you can see the files leave already encrypted and that no request carries the key.
